Normally persons working at Level 2 should be able to competently carry out simple, complex and routine work activities and to collaborate with others.
The qualification covers competencies by providing services in Allied Health –Geriatric Caregiver Level 2 such as being able to provide care and support to the elderly
and persons with disabilities while working in a safe and hygienic manner.
Allied Health – Geriatric Caregiver – Level 2
The CVQ Level 2 in Allied Health –Geriatric Caregiver for individuals whose role requires well developed behavioural competencies but whose scope for independent decision making and for bringing about change is unlimited.
They are likely to be in roles where they are required to:
- Provide nutritional care
- Support the elderly person to maintain their independence
- Prepare medical equipment and supplies
- Provide care and support to senior citizens
- Support persons with disabilities in geriatric Care
- Attend to sanitation and hygiene care
Relevant occupations include:
- Home Care Assistants
To achieve this qualifications all core units must be achieved plus a minimum of two Level 1 electives, three Level 2 electives and one Level
3 elective must be completed.
Areas of Training include the following:
- Maintain a safe, clean and efficient work environment
- Prepare bed for occupancy
- Apply basic first aid
- Contribute to a harmonious and efficient work environment
- Carry out data entry and retrieval procedures
- Prepare medical equipment and supplies
- Provide nutritional care
- Provide care support to senior citizens
- Support the elderly persons to meet their emotional and psychosocial needs
- Support persons with disabilities in Geriatric Care
- Provide care/support which is responsive to specific behavioural changes
- Conduct a recreation program for persons in Geriatric Care
- Measure vital signs
- Attend to sanitation and hygiene care
- Care for the dying elderly person
- Assist care recipient with medication
