Newlo Signs Skills Training Agreement With SAEP

The New Life Organization (NEWLO) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Climate Smart Agriculture & Rural Enterprise Programme (SAEP) which seeks to strengthen the capacity of rural youths between the ages 16–35 years through life skills, literacy, vocational training and CVQ certification leading to permanent employment or self-employment opportunities in areas that are market driven to increase their marketability and potential to earn income above the poverty level.

The MOU was signed on Monday June 12, 2019 at the Ministry of Finance Conference. Present at the signing was Patricia Clarke, Acting Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance; Isha Abraham, Deputy Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance and Chair of the SAEP Steering Committee; Byron Campbell, Head of Rural Development with Responsibilities to the SAEP Programme.  Sister. Margaret Yamoah, Executive Director signed on behalf of NEWLO, with Lorna Douglas, Marketing Manager of NEWLO as Witness to the signing of the MOU.

The MOU is a three-year Agreement with an approximate value of EC$872,361.00.  A total of one hundred and twenty (120) rural youth (40% male and 60% female) will be trained at NEWLO, over the three-year period. Some of the areas that have been identified to be completed at the end of the Agreement are Electrical Installation with a unit on solar energy, Food Preparation & Cookery, ICT, Agro Food Processing, Animal and Crop Production, Housekeeping, among others.
