General Construction – Level 2

The CVQ Level 2 in General Construction is for individuals whose construction role requires
well-developed behavioural competencies but whose scope for independent decision making and
for bringing about change is unlimited.

They are likely to be in roles where they are required:

  • To adhere to occupational health and safety standard procedures
  • To carry out measurements and calculations
  • To erect and dismantle restricted height scaffolding
  • To use hand and power tools
  • To prepare for carpentry construction and solid plastering
  • To carry out concrete work
  • To use simple levelling devices

Normally persons working at Level 2 should be able to competently carry out simple, complex and routine work activities and to collaborate with others through
groups and teams. The qualification covers competencies by providing services in General Construction Level 2 such as being able to understand and carry
out components of masonry, tiling, carpentry, painting and decorating, roofing, small business management, construction material handling and
information technology while working in a safe and hygienic manner.

  • Mason
  • Tiler

The holders of this qualification will demonstrate a range of personal presentations and demonstrations of team work skills and literacy skills.
To achieve this qualifications all core units must be achieved. Any elective completed will be awarded unit statement of competency.

  • Carry out concreting to simple forms
  • Handle construction materials & safe disposal of waste
  • Prepare for solid plastering
  • Prepare for brick/block laying
  • Prepare for carpentry
  • Mix cementitious materials (mortar and concrete)
  • Assemble simple partition frames
  • Carry out levelling
  • Erect and strip formwork for concrete work
  • Carryout concrete work
  • Use static machines
  • Make set out
  • Install door frames
  • Finish concrete
  • Cure concrete
  • Construct straight masonry block-work
  • Prepare for all and floor tiling
  • Prepare for dry wall plastering
  • Prepare for painting and decorating
  • Carry out steel fixing

Length of Period of Training: Nine (9) months
